Job Details

(HEO6) $80,053 to $86,473 per annum plus an employer contribution of 9.5% superannuation will apply.

The University of Adelaide Enterprise Agreement 2017-2021 will apply to a successful candidate's employment at the University. The University recently temporarily varied its Enterprise Agreement. Please be advised that the salary range, along with other conditions associated with this position, may change in accordance with the variation to the Enterprise Agreement.

Fixed-term position available for two years.

Work with a team that is developing cutting edge hyperspectral imaging sensors for satellite, drone and airborne remote sensing.

In 2021, CSIRO will launch CSIROSat-1, a hyperspectral infrared imaging mission, as a major step toward establishing Australian Earth Observation capacity from orbit. The CSIRO Satellite Optics Laboratory is dedicated to the development of new sensors for the space industry and the generation of 'analysis-ready' Earth observation data.

The successful candidate will work with a team that is developing cutting edge hyperspectral imaging sensors for satellite, drone and airborne remote sensing. The multidisciplinary team is based at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) on the Uni Adelaide's North Terrace campus, just across the street from Lot Fourteen and the headquarters of the Australian Space Agency.

You will help develop simulations of high altitude and satellite imaging scenarios, plan imaging campaigns, develop data processing pipelines, and work with the rest of the team to demonstrate new methods for Earth observation. Some of the data processing we develop will be used to program onboard controllers to do real-time data processing onboard satellites or other remote platforms.

To be successful you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field such as computer vision, data science, machine learning (Honours or Master's postgraduate degree desirable).
  • Solid understanding of image processing and computer vision concepts.
  • Experience working with and manipulating geospatial datasets using Python, R or Matlab.
  • Very good oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
