We are seeking dedicated and passionate casual academic staff to assist with the delivery of our program in 2021.

A number of roles are available, including:

Clinical Practice Year 1: supervising students working on each other learning basic clinical skills. Tutors will be expected to have at least 1-2 years of clinical practice experience. Sessions are based at Gilles Plains TAFE clinic for semester 1 and 2.

Clinical Practice Year 2: supervising students working on each other and family/friend patients learning basic clinical skills. Tutors will be expected to have at least 1-2 years of clinical practice experience. Sessions are based after-hours in Adelaide Dental Hospital for semester 1 and 2.

Clinical Practice Year 3: supervising students working on SA Dental Service patients in the Adelaide Dental Hospital. Tutors will be expected to have at least 3 years of clinical practice experience and be able to supervise students undertake dental clinical examinations (diagnosis & treatment planning), and limited patient care.

Clinical Practice Year 4: supervising students working on SA Dental Service patients in a variety of clinic locations (Community Clinics, Adelaide Dental Hospital) over an extended clinical placement program (Feb to Dec). Tutors will be expected to have at least 4-5 years clinical practice experience. Clinic sessions in Year 4 include: General Dental Practice; Oral Diagnosis; Endodontics; Removable Prosthodontics; Fixed Prosthodontics and Paediatric dentistry. Fourth year dental students provide comprehensive patient care for patients that have more complex medical and social histories and interdisciplinary and discipline specific clinical/patient management.

Clinical Practice Year 5: supervising students working on SA Dental Service patients in a variety of clinic locations (Community Clinics, Adelaide Dental Hospital and Rural) over an extended clinical placement program (Feb-Dec). Tutors will be expected to have at least 4-5 years clinical practice experience and be able to supervise the full range of general dentistry. Fifth year dental students provide comprehensive patient care for patients that have more complex medical and social histories.

Dental Simulation Clinical Practice Years 1, 2, and 3: supervising students in the dental simulation clinic learning basic dental and clinical skills and restorative procedures on manikins. Tutors will be expected to have at least 1-2 years of clinical practice experience.

Teaching students of the Adelaide Dental School, you will be responsible for upholding the academic quality and integrity of the program, in consultation with the Program and Course Coordinators. Pre-reading and preparation prior to attending sessions may be required. All tutors are required to comply with University and SA Dental Service policies and procedures. Successful applicants will be advised on the process for obtaining full clinical credentialing through SA Health, a mandatory requirement for teaching staff.

You will be located at either the Adelaide Dental Hospital in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building (North Terrace), SA Dental Service clinics in Marion, Gilles Plains, Noarlunga, Elizabeth or Rural dental clinics (Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Mt Gambier) or the Dental Simulation Clinic on the main North Tce campus.

You will support students in the dental program through direct clinic supervision and the provision of student feedback and clinical assessments as directed by the coordinators.

Occasional out of hours work may be required such as attendance to compulsory tutor training sessions and assessment moderation meetings. Clinic session times vary depending on clinic location.

To be successful you will need:
  • A current practicing Dentist or Dental Specialist with full Registration with the Dental Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Current Radiography Licence and CPR certificate
  • A Dental degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical dentistry: Patient centred-care skills and Clinical Practice skills underpinned by contemporary evidence-based dental practice and Minimal Intervention Dentistry philosophy
  • Excellent team work and time management skills
  • Evidence of managing staff/students and patients in a clinic setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Desirable
  • Demonstrated experience of undergraduate teaching in dental education
  • Demonstrated experience of student support
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment of student performance
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and information technologies to support student learning
