Job Details

The main task of this job will be the coordination and management of ongoing research collaborations between academic, industrial and clinical partners in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. This will include the supervision of undergraduate students in conjunction with the PIs of the different institutions, as well as fostering new ways of additional collaboration leading to submission of new proposals. The candidate should expect spending a substantial amount of time in the hospital gathering specifications for the development of new computational tools tailored to some interesting clinical questions and retrieving the necessary clinical data for testing the developed algorithms.

For several years, the Universitat Pompeu Fabra has been closely collaborating with cardiac electrophysiologists on the development of advanced computational tools to process imaging and signal data for better understanding of arrhythmias and for improving planning and guidance of radio-frequency ablation interventions, both for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia patients. Multi-disciplinary work with electrophysiologists at Teknon-Quirón Barcelona and engineers of the Adas3D company has led to joint projects to translate the developed computational tools to a clinical environment.

The candidate for this job will be the liaison between these three institutions and other national hospitals to gather specifications required for new advanced computational tools and supervise team members implementing these solutions. The candidate should have a very good knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, ideally with previous experience working closely with electrophysiologists and, if possible, with medical device companies. Knowledge about cardiac imaging and signals would be very beneficial. Computational techniques such as physiological modelling and machine learning will be used, thus the candidate should be familiar with them. Despite not requiring excellent programming skills, it would be positive to have sufficient knowledge to understand difficulties associated to development of clinician-friendly tools. It is compulsory to have proficiency level of English, in particular for writing communication since the candidate should contribute to the preparation of new project submissions to further fund research between the involved institutions.
