RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • The instructional design and development of educational material and e-assessment, interactive multimedia, mobile and web products;
  • On-going liaison and co-ordination with academic personnel, project leaders and project managers as well as other role-players for the successful progression and completion of e-learning projects;
  • Providing a consultation service and advice to academic personnel regarding the use of electronic delivery systems, as well as the identification, planning, implementation and evaluation of multimedia, mobile and web products as well as electronic assessment;
  • Providing training of and support to staff and students in the use of electronic environments;
  • Conducting research on new educational media and technologies and participating in the testing and evaluation thereof in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Master's degree in Computer Integrated Education / Multimedia Design or relevant field of study or equivalent qualification with five years' relevant working experience; OR
  • An Honours degree in Computer Integrated Education / Multimedia Design or relevant field of study or equivalent qualification with six years' relevant working experience;
  • Instructional design experience in at least one recent instructional authoring software;
  • Experience in instructional design and development of web, mobile or multimedia products;
  • Experience in the design and development of learning material in a learning management system, e.g. Blackboard, Moodle or SAKAI;
  • Experience in the management of projects and responsibility for projects within a multidisciplinary team approach;
  • Educational / teaching / training experience and facilitation skills;
  • Knowledge and experience with regard to the innovative design and establishment of quality teaching / learning environments for successful e-learning, including mobile learning;
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of learning theories, instructional design and e-assessment principles in e-learning, hybrid learning or blended learning within the higher education environment.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • The ability to conceptualize e-learning solutions and integrate educational technology within the curriculum;
  • The ability to identify training and educational needs of lecturers in the preparation for implementing electronic education;
  • Self-starter who can work under pressure and handle a variety of tasks or projects simultaneously;
  • Supportive towards colleagues, academic staff and students;
  • High level of computer literacy;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • At least three years' relevant experience in higher education;
  • Blackboard Certified Trainer;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Economic and Management Sciences;
  • Experience in the development of new and review of existing interventions and training material for e-learning training events;
  • The ability to interpret Learning Analytics data reports in order to enhance course design or improve effective assessment;
  • Knowledge of the trends and innovation in electronic learning and the application thereof in higher education.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of Appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
