ESR1 (SPAIN): Prediction of drug effect on tissue arrhythmogenicity by hi-IPSC in vitro model.
The Health Research Institute Hospital La Fe (IIS La Fe) manages the scientific policy of La Fe University Hospital (Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe) in its sphere of influence (La Fe Health Department, Valencia - Departament de Salut València La Fe). Its managing body is the Research Foundation of La Fe University Hospital (Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe), a non-profit foundation of the public sector of the Generalitat Valenciana.The Institute encourages, promotes and fosters cutting-edge investigation, scientific and technological knowledge and its further transfer to the production sector. The same holds true in its role in teaching and training in the Hospital and other primary care centres that fall under the Health Department.The IIS La Fe was accredited by the Health Institute Carlos III (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) as a Health Research Institute in 2009, and again re-accredited in 2014, and is made up of the following entities: Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe, Conselleria de Sanitat Universal i Salut Pública, Universitat de València, Universitat Politécnica de València, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and Foundation for Research of the U. and P. La Fe Hospital of the Valencian Community. The Institute is formed by 26 Accredited Research Groups, 12 Mixed Units and other 13 Research Groups. Moreover, our research staff form part of other networks and consortiums, such as 4 CIBERs (Consortium of Biomedical Research) and 10 RETICs (Collaborative Investigation Thematic Network in Health). In 2016, the R+D management system of IIS La Fe was certified according to the UNE 166002 standard for innovation, development and innovation activities in medical sciences (clinical sciences, pathology, internal medicine, surgery), computers and instrumentation technology applied to health sciences. The Quality and R+D Policy of the Institute establishes the general guidelines of this system, and evidences the Management's commitment to it.
Project description:
The aim of this project is to develop an in-vitro workbench for drug screening by developing a population of hiPSC-derived atrial cardiomyocytes that account for the interpatient variability in cardiac ion channels due to genetic/transcriptional factors. This population of models will be used for testing the arrhythmia inducibility after administration of drugs by analyzing the electrophysiological behaviors and to determine patient biomarkers that can predict drug response and plan a personalized AF therapy.
