Job Details

The Mathematical Sciences Department is responsible for teaching and research in computer science, applied mathematics and mathematics at Stellenbosch University. The Computer Science Division is research-active in artificial intelligence and machine learning, automata theory, program analysis, testing, and verification, and computer networks. The Division aims to strengthen its collaboration with the School for Data Science and Computational Thinking and is therefore keen to appoint a Lecturer with a strong research background and publication record in analysis of structured data. The incumbent may have the opportunity to seek a joint appointment with the School for Data Science and Computational Thinking.

Duties
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science modules;
  • Research and publication in Data Science or the Division's research focus areas;
  • Recruiting and supervising postgraduate students in Computer Science;
  • Fulfilling administrative roles on a rotational basis;
  • Securing research funding;
  • Building an international research network;
  • Collaborating with the School for Data Science and Computational Thinking.


Job requirements
  • PhD in Computer Science in a field aligned to one of the research focus areas in Computer Science;
  • Post-doctoral research experience;
  • Research background in Data Science, in particular analysis of structured data;
  • A growing research publication record in recognised journals or conference proceedings;
  • Teaching experience in Computer Science (teaching assistant or tutor at tertiary level);
  • Demonstrable excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
