Staff Scientist: Cardiovascular MRI

The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to recruit a Staff Scientist with expertise in cardiovascular MRI to join the Laboratory of Clinical Physiology within the Cardiovascular Branch of the NHLBI. The Cardiovascular Branch at NHLBI conducts research on diseases that affect the heart, blood, blood vessels and lungs with specific projects aimed to answer clinically relevant issues and include pre-clinical work as well as clinical projects in diagnostics, therapeutics and interventions; and emphasize creation of an environment where scientists and physician scientists can work together on disease specific issues using the most appropriate approaches available in the spectrum between the bench and the bedside.

The Laboratory of Clinical Physiology’s research program includes developmental work on new cardiovascular MRI sequences, testing in experimental models at NHLBI as well as a clinical research program in collaboration with MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Research MRI scanners at NIH are available for sequence development and experimental testing. The clinical translation of these techniques will mainly be performed at Medstar Washington Hospital Center where a newly installed Siemens Sola 1.5T MRI scanner will be equipped with research sequences from NHLBI and hardware for MRI-guided invasive catheterization.

The staff scientist would be responsible for conducting independent research in the field of MRI engineering within the clinical environment. Candidates must have a PhD in MRI physics, engineering, or related discipline and possess an outstanding track record in cardiovascular MRI research. Preferred candidates have documented experience pulse programming in the Siemens IDEA environment, history of independent project development, and good communications skills. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The research is funded by the intramural research program and does not require applications for grants or external support.
