Job Details
Are you an environmental scientist keen to apply your knowledge to drive positive environmental change?
Do you have experience working on projects with multiple partners to find innovative solutions to shared problems?
The United Bank of Carbon (UBoC) is a UK registered charity that empowers collaboration between environmental scientists and businesses, local authorities, and NGOs to protect and restore forests around the world through environmentally and socially-responsible partnerships. The Leeds Ecosystem, Atmosphere & Forest (LEAF) Centre is a network of researchers from across the University of Leeds with expertise in forests from many perspectives and at different spatial scales.
You will lead efforts to translate and communicate new scientific knowledge to leverage change to protect and restore forests around the world. Working within the UBoC and LEAF teams at the University of Leeds you will provide scientific input and oversight across our collaborations with local authorities, businesses, land owners, NGOs, community groups and other charities. You will take a leading role in our work to quantify and communicate the role of trees and forests in achieving global net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, air quality improvement, flood risk reduction, biodiversity enhancement and contribution to human well-being. Your work will contribute to restoration and protection of forests in Yorkshire, the UK and worldwide.
Working alongside the UBoC team, including a Science and Communications Officer, Natural Capital Valuation Officer and Woodland Creation Officer, you will manage our relationship with external partners and help the organisations we work with to underpin their decision making with robust science.
You will be required to read widely across the relevant peer-reviewed scientific literature, to report on this and to become familiar with different environmental datasets and their limitations. You will be able to provide scientific oversight for reports produced by UBoC and LEAF.
