JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is developing advanced delivery and genome engineering capabilities to enable the next generation of gene and cell therapies. We seek a highly motivated and creative Scientist to join our new Genome Editing Technologies group. The successful candidate will work with colleagues to establish novel technologies for genome targeting and cellular engineering that will directly impact the scope and power of our therapeutic programs. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the team to establish genome targeting platform capabilities
  • Establish and develop new gene editing and gene regulation technologies
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to expand the range and sophistication of engineerable behaviors that can be applied to our cell therapy programs
  • Communicate and document findings via verbal and written methods

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in scientific discipline and up to 2+ yrs academic or industry experience. BA and/or MS plus 7+ yrs or equivalent combination of education and work experience; Strong knowledge of required principals and concepts with understanding of context for application.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating proficiency in protein design, genome targeting technologies, or the development of new genome or epigenome editing capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of the energetics and kinetics of folding and recognition processes
  • Ability to motivate new directions in protein design and platform development for genome engineering, and to reduce strategic initiatives to an actionable plan
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to present effectively to teams with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work as projects mature
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced research environment, and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to use structural biology graphics packages to inform & constrain protein design problems
  • Demonstrated proficiency with protein design packages such as Rosetta
  • Understanding of the principles and methods for determining valid dissociation constants
  • Familiarity with methods and concepts used to characterize the specificity of site-specific DNA-binding proteins
  • Facility with one or more programming languages such as Python
  • Demonstrated high throughput and multiplexing capabilities
  • Ability to process and analyze large data sets
  • Experience with directed evolution methods
  • Molecular biology skills
  • Tissue culture skills
  • Experience with sequence analysis for characterization of gene editing outcomes
