Job Details

We are looking to recruit a talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate form and function of candidate kinases in the leading fungal pathogens of humans Candida albicans and C. glabrata , which cause life-threatening infections with mortality rates of up to 75%, due to the lack of effective antifungal therapies. We previously characterized the virulence potential of fungal-specific kinases and now aim to further investigate their functional and structural properties with the long-term vision of turning them into suitable drug targets.

As an integral lab member, you will investigate functional properties of candidate kinases, including their activity and target space. In addition to their biochemical characterization, you will conduct structural analysis of at least one high-priority kinase. The project is supported by access to the Faculty of Life Sciences' outstanding research facilities, including the Proteomics Facility and the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility.

Candidates should have a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry. Experience in yeast molecular biology, kinase characterization and/or structural biology are highly desirable. The successful candidate should furthermore have a keen interest in fungal virulence mechanisms, excellent communication skills, and experience in student supervision.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Stephanie Diezmann by phone +44 (0)117 3312001 or email s.diezmann@bristol.ac.uk For more information on the Diezmann lab please see www.yeast-genetics.co.uk

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people who will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
