BRIGHAM AND WOMEN’S HOSPITAL BASIC/TRANSLATIONAL TRANSFUSION MEDICINE INVESTIGATOR

The Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking a scientific investigator at the Instructor/Assistant Professor level with a Ph.D. or M.D. degree (or both) and postdoctoral research training.

The successful applicant will build an independent research program within a team of transfusion medicine specialists focused on fundamental aspects of the immune response to blood transfusion.  Areas of interest include research programs focused on the development of naturally occurring and transfusion-induced alloimmune responses relevant to transfusion and transplantation.  As such, successful candidates will have expertise in immunology, immunohematology, transfusion medicine and the carbohydrate biochemistry of blood group antigens. The duties could be 100% research or split 20:80 between clinical service responsibility and research and may vary over time. Applicants should be committed to research, scholarship, and teaching, and patient care as appropriate.

The BWH Department of Pathology offers complete Anatomic and Clinical Pathology services and has robust clinical and research training programs with more than 120 faculty members, 60 residents and clinical fellows, and 75 post-doctoral research fellows. The environment provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical, translational and basic research. Collaborations in many areas of science and access to innovative educational technologies are available within the department and with investigators in multiple Harvard-affiliated institutions, including the Harvard Medical School, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the    Mass General Brigham Health Care System.
