Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration and independent thought.

Sana has a research opportunity in Immunology to positively impact projects in the pipeline that are pioneering a transformative new approach to engineering cells as medicine. This scientist will develop and execute the scientific strategy for novel platforms to enhance efficacy of T cell therapies across multiple disease indications, as well as provide immunology expertise across cell and gene therapy within Sana.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and conduct in vitro assays to assess human and murine T cell phenotype and function, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production and multiparameter immunophenotyping
  • Design and oversee in vivo animal studies using immune deficient, humanized and syngeneic mouse models to optimize platform-based T cell therapeutics and understand mechanism of action
  • Supervise technical staff to accomplish research goals
  • Collaborate closely with in vivo, gene therapy and vector development teams to coordinate experiments and deliver high quality results
  • Contribute to execution of IND-enabling studies and preparation of associated non-clinical study reports
  • Present data to managers and at group meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Deep/ knowledge of T cell immunology with insight into T cell effector function, including T cell differentiation, T cell exhaustion and persistence, and stimulatory/inhibitory regulatory mechanisms
  • Technical expertise in T cell immunotherapy and/or transplant animal models, including immune deficient/humanized and syngeneic murine models
  • Technical expertise in assays to characterize human and mouse T cell phenotype and function, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production, chemotaxis, multiparameter immunophenotyping (flow and mass cytometry) and NGS analyses
  • Experience with lentiviral transduction and other gene therapy techniques (e.g., CRISPR).
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Company

We believe we are entering a new era of medicine.  The ability to modify genes and use cells as medicines provides new tools to meaningfully change the outcome of many human diseases.

Early pioneers have made good progress, but most of what we can deliver for patients remains in front of us.

Sana was founded with the long view – bringing together great people and the best technologies to deliver on the challenging promise of engineered cells as medicines.

Three aspirations drive Sana as we look to treat patients with poor outcomes or currently untreatable diseases.
