JOB PURPOSE

Sana Biotechnology is looking to expand our team with hard-working individuals who believe in the potential of cells as engineered medicines, have the vision to do creative things, and the determination to execute that vision. Works on projects of diverse scope. Exercises judgement within broadly defined practices to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration and independent thought.

Sana has a research opportunity in Immunology to positively impact projects in the pipeline that are pioneering a transformative new approach to engineering cells as medicine. This scientist will develop and execute the scientific strategy for novel platforms to enhance efficacy of T cell therapies across multiple disease indications, as well as provide immunology expertise across cell and gene therapy within Sana.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Apply T cell signaling expertise to interrogate and understand novel platform-based T cell therapeutics mechanism to identify optimal cell signaling domains, vector constructs and T cell subtypes to facility lead identification
  • Design and conduct in vitro assays to assess human and murine T cell phenotype and function, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production and multiparameter immunophenotyping
  • Supervise technical staff to accomplish research goals
  • Collaborate closely with in vivo, gene therapy and vector development teams to coordinate experiments and deliver high quality results
  • Contribute to execution of IND-enabling studies and preparation of associated non-clinical study reports
  • Present data to managers and at group meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Immunology or similar discipline with 5+ years of postdoctoral experience in academia or industry
  • Deep knowledge of T cell signaling and how these pathways affect effector function, T cell differentiation and T cell exhaustion/persistence
  • Experience with CAR-T cell therapeutics with expertise on the effect of effector and costimulatory domain signaling in the context of CAR activation
  • Expertise in proteomic analysis techniques, including Western blots, phospho-flow cytometry, mass spectrometry and/or tandem mass spec (LC-MS/MS)
  • Technical expertise in assays to characterize human and mouse T cell phenotype and function, including cytotoxicity, proliferation, cytokine production, chemotaxis, multiparameter immunophenotyping (flow and mass cytometry) and NGS analyses
  • Experience with lentiviral transduction and other gene therapy techniques (e.g., CRISPR).
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Company

We believe we are entering a new era of medicine.  The ability to modify genes and use cells as medicines provides new tools to meaningfully change the outcome of many human diseases.

Early pioneers have made good progress, but most of what we can deliver for patients remains in front of us.

Sana was founded with the long view – bringing together great people and the best technologies to deliver on the challenging promise of engineered cells as medicines.

Three aspirations drive Sana as we look to treat patients with poor outcomes or currently untreatable diseases.
