Grade 10

The University of Birmingham, in collaboration with leading science park developer Bruntwood SciTech, is developing a new life sciences park - Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (BHIC) - that will transform health innovation for the region, delivering impact nationally and internationally. Designated by Government as one of only six Life Sciences Opportunity Zones in the UK, BHIC will provide a direct opportunity to attract significant inward investment, offering over 70,000sqm of high-quality accommodation for businesses operating in the health and life sciences sphere.

A unique attraction of BHIC is its proximity to a well-developed health and life sciences eco-system centred around Birmingham Health Partners (BHP) which brings together the academic, clinical and translational excellence of the University of Birmingham, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust and the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust as well as our regional Academic Health Science Network, providing the potential to access a highly diverse regional population of nearly 6 million.

Key to unlocking the links with this partnership will be the University's signature 6,000sqm innovation and incubation facility - the £50m Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA),dedicated to the rapid development and translation of innovative therapies and technologies from idea to clinical evaluation. This new innovation facility will accelerate our ambition to be a research and innovation leader in the field of health and life sciences and will create new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs to innovate and grow their businesses and for academic and clinical leaders in the region to commercialise their ideas.

The University is seeking an outstanding leader who will be responsible for the overall leadership of this exciting, newly created business. As Managing Director (MD) for the PHTA, they will lead the strategic direction and management of the organisation whilst providing the inspirational leadership to ensure the PHTA remains at the forefront of commercialising health technologies and innovative diagnostic services. Reporting to the PHTA Board, the successful candidate will possess well-developed external networks along with highly developed financial and commercial acumen, budgetary management and corporate governance skills. You will most likely bring knowledge of working/interfacing with a research-intensive organisation such as a university or other similar partners and will possess a deep understanding of distinctive business cultures (both established and SME/start-up) within the health and life sciences domain.
