Job Details
The Southampton Applied Mathematics Group is offering a short-term postdoctoral position in high-energy physics, starting 1 Jan 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is until 31/03/2021, and there is some flexibility in the starting date. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake research within a Leverhulme-funded project to investigate dense nuclear and quark matter in neutron stars with holographic methods.
The University of Southampton (UK) is home to a large research group in astrophysics and string theory. The Group currently comprises about 15 academic members of staff and advanced research fellows as well as a number of postdocs and research students. Research interests in the group cover neutron-star astrophysics, gravitational waves, string-inspired gravity and holography, and aspects of particle and nuclear physics. The group is part of the STAG Research Centre and has close ties with the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
In order to be considered for this post, the applicant must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Physics or a related discipline and have a track record in at least one of the following research areas: neutron star physics, Quantum Chromodynamics, AdS/CFT correspondence.
A complete application should include (i) a Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications; (ii) a brief (
