Senior Research Coordinator

Five-year contract position with benefits

The Division of Surgery seeks to appoint a Senior Research Coordinator in our Surgery division and invites applications from suitably qualified candidates.

Duties
  • Coordinating, developing, monitoring and supporting clinical research projects within the Division of Surgery (for consultants, registrars, undergraduate and postgraduate students), encompassing all phases of scientific research, such as conceptualising; literature reviewing; ethics approval; funding/grant applications; collecting data, managing and analysing data; and dissemination of results;
  • Facilitating quarterly MMed feedback sessions;
  • Assisting with mentoring and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students. Liaising with the Undergraduate Research Office and the Registrar Research Support Office;
  • Synthesising and analysing data for publications, conference abstracts and presentations, using relevant data management and analysis software (e.g. RedCap and SPSS), and assisting students in these research processes;
  • Preparing and assisting students to prepare, manuscripts (i.e. drafting, editing and formatting) for submission to suitable peer-reviewed scientific journals;
  • Compiling regular reports on progress of research projects within the Division;
  • Compiling annual reports on awards received, achievements and publication outputs for the Division;
  • Presenting study findings at conferences and research meetings, for example, SU's Annual Academic Day;
  • Attending courses and workshops relevant to improving and facilitating research processes in the Division (e.g. project management, grant writing, research capacity building, supervision);
  • Other duties as required by the head of the Division.


Job Requirements
  • PhD degree in a field in the Health Sciences;
  • Proven research experience with publications in a Health Sciences context;
  • Experience in postgraduate education and supervision in the Health Sciences;
  • Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including experience in the use of quantitative and qualitative analytical software and data management programs e.g. SPSS; Atlas;
  • Competent in the use of relevant academic search engines and electronic databases;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently.


Recommendation
  • Experience in grant application and sourcing financial support for research.
  • Experience in surgical research;
  • A strong publication record;
  • Grant writing skills;
  • Reviewing and editing skills;
  • Familiarity with university systems and processes such as Health Research Ethics applications, MMed and PhD programmes.
