Job summary

Campus Services is looking for an outstanding digital Marketing Officer to join their busy marketing team. Campus Services is responsible for a very large range of services within the University of Birmingham: student accommodation, catering, cleaning and waste management, conferences and events, delivering the University's post, day nurseries, security, Winterbourne House & Garden, ensuring we remain at the pinnacle of University sport in the UK and more.

The successful candidate will be involved in defining, overseeing and developing the digital marketing strategy for the individual areas of Campus Services.

The candidate will have at least 2 years' experience working within a Digital Marketing role including thorough knowledge of email and content marketing, ux design and websites, Google Analytics, social media, SEO and PPC.

Main duties

The successful candidate will utilise any and all digital channels such as social media, email and search marketing to achieve business objectives. The candidate should have an up to date and extensive understanding of digital, direct and email marketing, with an interest in creating effective content which creates action.

Good communication and analytical ability will be key and the candidate must have the energy and self-motivation to deliver effective results.
  • Create and deploy all email activity
  • Develop and implement SEO and PPC strategies
  • Create and manage link building strategies, content marketing strategies, and social media presences
  • Innovate and present new marketing platforms and strategies
  • Develop engaging online content including clickbait, forums, videos, graphics, and blogs; monitor and analyse content success
  • Forecast marketing campaign growth and ROI for marketing campaigns
  • Manage social media marketing campaigns
  • Use Google Analytics, Google AdWords, and other relevant sites
  • Devise strategies to drive online traffic to a portfolio of websites
  • Manage all website updates and redesigns, with a strong knowledge and interest of UX
  • Establish, track and optimise conversion rates and make improvements to websites as a result
  • Keep abreast of new social media sites, web technologies, and digital marketing trends; implement these new technologies in developing campaigns and update current campaigns to include new information
  • Improve usability, design, content and conversion for the different websites
  • Develop and manage digital marketing campaigns
  • Create landing pages that drives conversion
  • Measure and report on the performance of all digital marketing campaigns
  • Manage the Campus Services presence on the intranet and core university website
  • Lead on digital campaigns such as app development, virtual tours, augmented reality and new techniques
  • Review new technologies and keep us at the forefront of developments in digital marketing


Required knowledge and skills
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript development and constraints
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
  • Experience in optimising landing pages and user funnels
  • Have previous experience of managing PPC, SEO and social media measurement tools like Hootsuite
  • Have an excellent knowledge of web analytics pacakges - Google analytics, Tag Manager and Adwords
  • Indepth knowledge of email marketing software - previous working knowledge of Adestra would be useful but not essential.
  • Experience with A/B multivariate experiments
  • An indepth understanding of digital best practice and UX/UI web design
  • Up to date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement
  • Experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
  • Experience in optimising landing pages and user funnels
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines via excellent organisation, planning and admin
  • A driven and passionate approach to work
  • A self-starter with a great attitude and the ability to work well with others.
