Job Details
Do you want to directly support the achievement of a Faculty's strategic objectives?
Are you a strong business partner?
Can you prepare detailed and robust financial plans, understand and interpret complex financial information and communicate this to non-finance colleagues in a proactive and engaging manner?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Faculty Finance Manager to join our thriving finance team supporting the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS). The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises the Schools of Education, Sociology and Social Policy, Politics and International Studies and Law. It has almost 4,500 taught students, and around 200 research students from over 40 countries and brings in an annual research grant turnover of around £4m. A key part of the Faculty's mission is to tackle some of the important societal challenges currently facing the world through increased interdisciplinary work with Schools and Faculties across the University. The interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty's research and teaching, concerned with issues of key importance to the future of the societies in which we live, make it an exciting and stimulating place to work.
As a Faculty Finance Manager you will develop the Faculty's financial strategy and then ensure that it is implemented effectively and that financial risks are identified and managed appropriately. You will ensure that robust five year financial plans are prepared on an annual basis, and that ongoing budget monitoring and control is effective.
You will line manage the Faculty Finance team and Research Manager, being responsible for managing workload and developing and motivating the team.
You will provide effective advice to non-finance colleagues in the Faculty, advising, guiding and influencing Faculty strategic and operational decision making.
With a CCAB (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) qualification and/or extensive management accounting skills and experience, you will also have line management experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility and trust with a wide range of people.
