The role

We are looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic lecturer to teach on the MSc Public Health delivered by the department of Population Health Science, in Bristol Medical School. The MSc was established in 2018 and includes units on the principles and practice of public health, health improvement, health protection, evaluation of public health interventions, research methods, epidemiology and statistics, health economics, ethics and healthcare services. This is a new post to join an established and experienced group of teaching staff. The MSc benefits from expertise from external teachers from Public Health England and local government and the new post holder will work with internal and external teachers to develop, adapt and deliver flexible blended learning.

What will I be doing?
  • Adapt and develop teaching materials for online teaching activities (asynchronous and synchronous) with other academic staff and visiting teachers.
  • Deliver lectures and small group teaching including the subject areas and units focused on health improvement, public health, evaluation of public health interventions and health protection (infectious diseases and environment, occupation and radiation).
  • Be involved in developing assessments, marking and providing timely and constructive feedback for student coursework.
  • Provide academic support for personal tutees.


You should apply if
  • You are excited about teaching public health.
  • You have significant experience in public health teaching or public health policy or service work, with the ability to teach the theory and practice of public health, health improvement, health protection (infectious diseases and environmental health protection) and public health evaluation.
  • You can build strong, effective relationships with a range of people from different sectors and levels of seniority.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can clearly articulate verbally and in writing.
  • You relish the opportunity to develop and apply innovative methods for teaching online and in person.
