Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have a background in applied psychology or environmental behaviour?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research intensive Universities?

We are conducting an 18-month study into reducing household food waste. Despite the difficulties associated with the Covid-19 lockdown it has resulted in positive changes in food waste-related behaviours. While these changes are promising, behaviour change resulting from temporary contextual shifts may not last long and there is a need to run interventions that build on the current momentum to support long-term behaviour change.

As part of our project you will help to (i) identify the factors that have affected food waste behaviours under the Covid-19 lock down, (ii) develop, implement and systematically evaluate interventions to support positive behaviour change, and (iii) use our partnerships with WRAP and Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) to disseminate the outcomes across the UK. We will follow a three-stage study design consisting of (1) a mixed method study that includes a national survey and consumer interviews to determine the factors that have led to food waste behaviour change under lockdown, (2) an intervention study to maintain this positive behaviour in the long-term, accompanied by an evaluation study consisting of a household diary study and workshops with key stakeholders, (3) a series of dissemination events including a stakeholder workshop.
