The role

We are seeking a quantitative researcher with a background in epidemiology, medical statistics or health services research to join Professor Alastair Hay's Infection Group , based within the Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC) at the University of Bristol. The overall aim of the CAPC Infection Group is to improve primary care antimicrobial stewardship and reduce antimicrobial resistance.

This post is a reflection of the CAPC infection group's success in securing grant funding, CAPC's membership of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research , and Bristol Medical School's success in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). We expect the post-holder to play a significant role in the CAPC Infection Group , building on successful collaborations within Bristol Medical School (including the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Behavioural Science and Evaluation), other University of Bristol infection researchers, and primary care infection researchers in the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. Funding for this post is provided through a prestigious NIHR Senior Investigator Award held by Professor Alastair Hay and the Research and Evidence team of NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.

The post represents an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic individual with a promising reputation in epidemiology/ statistics/ health services research to join a thriving group within one of the UK's leading centres for primary care and population research.

The successful candidate will be appointed at either Research Associate (grade I) or Senior Research Associate (grade J). The postholder will have the opportunity to support portfolio of existing (in process) grant applications and development of new grant applications.

What will you be doing?

This post is a maternity leave cover. The post holder will support the development, writing and leadership of NIHR research grants related to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infections in patients presenting to primary care. They will also support/lead the conduct of systematic reviews and secondary statistical analyses of existing datasets

You should apply if

You will have experience of supporting successful quantitative grant applications (preferably in applied health infection research e.g. to the NIHR) with a strong epidemiological or statistical background, and experience (using Stata or other statistical packages) of applied statistical analyses. You may also have experience of conducting systematic reviews and/ or individual patient data analyses.

Salary: Grade I - £33,797 to £38,017 per annum pro rata / Grade J - £38,017 to £42,792 per annum pro rata
