Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have an established background in crystallization or crystal engineering?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research-intensive Universities?

You will join the CryForm project, funded by the European Research Council and led by Dr Elena Simone at the University of Leeds. CryForm aims at progressing the fundamental knowledge of organic materials crystallization to enable the design of novel sustainable, biocompatible and stimuli responsive formulations the encapsulation and controlled release of active ingredients.

You will be part of a growing, international research team and have the opportunity to collaborate with other Schools within the University, as well as with several academic and industrial partners (e.g.

Syngenta, Nestlé, Imperial College London, Diamond Light Source).

Your research will focus on understanding how crystal structure affect particles properties such as surface chemistry, and how this knowledge can be used to design novel formulations for food, pharmaceutical and agrochemical applications. The work will involve solid state forms screening, molecular modelling (e.g. Materials Studio) and analytical single crystal and powder characterization (e.g X-ray techniques, electron microscopy, chemical force microscopy).

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely allied discipline and a strong background in Crystallization, Particle Technology, Crystal Engineering or Crystallography. Experience in crystal nucleation and growth techniques as well as basic solid state characterization techniques (e.g. X-ray diffraction, Microscopy or Differential Scanning Calorimetry) is required, while experience in the use of crystallization equipment (e.g. Crystal16, CrystalBreeder) and molecular modelling is desirable.)
