Job Details

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated researcher with an interest in the global water challenges facing society and the environment?

Would you like to be a key part of a large international team researching and communicating scientific water data to decision makers on a global scale?

Are you interested in the opportunity to gain experience working with UK lead researchers and multiple partners overseas?

As part of the £17.7 million Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub , which is a five-year project funded by UKRI-GCRF, you will contribute to analysing spatio-temporal characteristics of water risks over time and develop water-related risk analysis to catalyse investment and improvement in water quality and hydrological resilience, in collaboration with our research partners. The GCRF Water Hub is led by Newcastle University, in collaboration with University of Leeds and University of Oxford in the UK, and includes a wide range of international organisations and partners in Colombia, Ethiopia, India and Malaysia.

Holding a PhD (or close to completion) or holding a Bachelors/Masters with equivalent research experience in either risk management, risk mapping, public health modelling, water safety planning or related subject areas, you will deal independently with a wide range of people and support existing research, as well as conducting new research. You will possess excellent analytical and writing skills and the ability to deal with a variety of tasks to set deadlines. The ability to work alone or as part of a multicultural and transdisciplinary team are essential, along with strong organisational skills.

The University of Leeds is a diverse, multi-cultural environment. We welcome applications from all sections of society and you will be expected to work within University values and policies which are designed to promote dignity, diversity, and inclusiveness. You will be based at the University of Leeds and it is anticipated that you will need to travel internationally to visit project partners in Columbia, Ethiopia, India and Malaysia as part of your role.

The post will be jointly supervised between Dr Miller Alonso Camargo-Valero and Professor Barbara Evans , from the School of Civil Engineering.
