Job Details

You will be based at the University of Southampton, one of the UK's top research-intensive universities. Chemistry at Southampton has a national and international reputation for excellence with world-leading facilities.

Fulleride salts, such as Rb3C60 are high temperature superconductors. This project aims to probe the mechanism of superconductivity using analogous salts derived from endofullerenes A@C 60, where A is a species enclosed by the C60 cage, such as in H2@C60 and 3 He@C 60. Experience of organic synthesis and handling high air sensitive materials, ideally fullerides will be needed. Utilising your experience in superconducting endofullerides you will contribute to the design and build of high pressure systems and NMR probes so relevant experience is important. You will work as part of a team to synthesise and characterised the target materials so a strong interest in working in a collaborative and cross-disciplinary project are required.

It is essential you have completed a PhD or have equivalent professional qualifications and experience in synthetic organic chemistry. You will demonstrate the ability to manage your time to deliver the required results and adhere to strict safety standards as you will also be involved in general running and maintenance of the laboratory.
