Job Details
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Official Statistics, in the Division of Social Statistics and Demography (http://www.southampton.ac.uk/demography). The main duties in the post will be to support enterprise and consultancy in official statistics, and to deliver teaching in statistics and/or demographic methods.
You will have or be near to completing a PhD in Statistics or a related discipline (or have equivalent professional experience), have the ability to manage and deliver high-quality research and communicate the outcomes in reports and through presentations, and have strong programming skills. It would be an advantage to have experience in at least one of official statistics, data science, administrative data.
The position is tenable from 1 April 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter and is available on a full-time basis for a fixed term until 30 September 2022, which may be extended. The Department of Social Statistics and Demography at Southampton is internationally known for its research in sample surveys, official statistics, statistical modelling, demography and social policy, and takes a strategic role in the development and promotion of the use of quantitative methods in the social sciences.
