Job Details

The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the various activities carried out within the host team, in particular on scientific developments related to the ECLAIRs instrument (large field instrument with coded mask in the X / gamma domain).

Work will be carried out on the correction of the diffuse background and the complexity added by the passage of the Earth in the field of view at each orbit. In parallel, the development and use of a catalog of sources in the energy domain covered by ECLAIRs will be used to correct the imagery for the presence of known sources in the field of view and to establish realistic simulations of 'observation.

Scientific performance tests between the pipeline under development at the APC and the ECLAIRs scientific processing software on board the satellite will be carried out.
This postdoctoral position in the AstroParticle and Cosmology (APC) laboratory is part of the French-Chinese space mission SVOM (acronym for SpaceVariable Objects Monitor).

This mission, dedicated to high-energy astrophysics, will be particularly important in the field of transient sky and multi-messenger astrophysics. The satellite is scheduled for launch in June 2022.

The postdoctoral fellow will participate in the group's various activities, in particular on the scientific developments related to the ECLAIRs instrument (wide-field instrument with coded mask in the X/gamma domain).

The postdoctoral fellow will work in the SVOM team of the Astrophysics group at High Energy (AHE) of the CNRS/IN2P3 AstroParticle and Cosmology (APC) laboratory.

The host team is composed of three scientists and several engineers involved in the SVOM space mission both in terms of scientific programme development and technical developments.

Several other French astrophysics laboratories are involved in the SVOM mission and close collaboration will be necessary with the CEA in Saclay responsible for the on-board software of ECLAIRs as well as the development of the French Science Center of the SVOM mission.

As the SVOM mission is the result of a Franco-Chinese collaboration, traveling to China are possible, if conditions allow.

The candidate will hold a doctorate in high energy astrophysics. Skills in space and coded mask imagery will be an added advantage. Numerical programming and scientific computing. Data analysis and visualization. Good knowledge of the python programming language.
