The role

We are seeking to appoint a talented quantitative researcher with expertise in health services research, applied health research, epidemiology, or medical statistics and interested in working on a range of topics within the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration West (NIHR ARC West) led by Professor John Macleod ( https://arc-w.nihr.ac.uk/about-arc-west/ ). The post is 100% FTE (35 hrs per week) starting ideally in February 2021 for up to 12 months (maternity leave cover).

NIHR ARC West is a partnership between the organisations and individuals that provide, plan and support health and social care in the West of England alongside the public that use these services and four local Universities, each with a world leading reputation in research to support better health and social care services and improvements in patient and public health. ARC West and carries out collaborative research and implementation of research findings with partners in the NHS, councils, voluntary organisations and Universities, and aims to improve health and care. Substantive research themes include Mental health, Public health and prevention, Integrated and optimal care and Healthier childhoods. Research and implementation projects in the four research themes are delivered by ARC research staff, in four crosscutting methodological themes: Behavioural and qualitative science, Applied data science, Health economics, and Evidence . An implementation strategy enables translation of our research findings into practice and policy decisions, and to integrate research and service delivery, Public and Community Involvement, Engagement and Participation (PCIEP) strategy ensures that PCIEP in embedded in ARC West projects, and a Training and capacity building (TCB) programme will build research capacity and capability both within the ARC and across our regional health and care systems.

The post will be based in the University of Bristol until the return of the post-holder from maternity leave (up to 12 months). The appointed researchers will work on several research projects in these areas, supported and supervised by Team Leads in the Applied Data Sciences and/or Evidence cross cutting methodology themes.

What will you be doing?

You will be involved in data collection, preparation of datasets, analysis and interpretation of data. Research methods used include evidence syntheses (from rapid, scoping reviews to full systematic reviews, including meta-analysis), observational studies based on routine and specifically collected data, and pilot/feasibility studies for randomised trials and other controlled designs, and contribute to writing publications. Attendance at courses will be encouraged, and other training will be provided as required.

You should apply if

• You have experience in medical statistics, epidemiology, applied health research or systematic reviews.
• You have a strong background in quantative methods applied to health services research.
• You have a higher degree in a relevant discipline.
• You have experience of publishing findings in international peer-reviewed journals.
• You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
