Job Details
The research group Environmental Economics at the University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a PhD position. The position is connected to ongoing research projects on the design of electricity markets, but the successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue additional research interests of his/her own in environmental or energy economics.
Your position
The mentioned projects investigate design options for electricity markets that help to support a high share of renewables and to harness demand-side flexibility. Contributing to these projects will require a sound background in microeconomic theory as well as some working knowledge in energy economics.
In addition to research, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching environmental and resource economics at the University of Basel, in particular, by leading exercise sessions in BA-level classes and by contributing to teaching on the MSc-level. All classes are taught in English.
Your profile
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in economics, mathematics, sustainable development or related disciplines, be fluent in English, and be interested in pursuing an academic career. They should be willing to collaborate with members of the research team in ongoing projects and able to build up their own research portfolio, developing and following own research ideas. As our research team consists of researchers with diverse scientific background, an interest in interdisciplinary work is important. The faculty of business and economics is committed to increasing the proportion of womenand thus strongly welcomes female applicants.
We offer you
The research group Environmental Economics offers the opportunity to conduct high-level research in an inspiring environment, the opportunity for exchange and collaboration with other research groups of the department, an extensive network of research partners in Switzerland and abroad, and the chance to participate in courses of the Graduate School of Business and Economics at the University of Basel.
The position is funded for 4 years with an initial contract for 1 year. At the end of the first year, an assessment based on performance and a detailed research proposal for the PhD is made. In case of a positive assessment the contract is expanded to 4 years. Conditions of employment and salary are governed by the personnel and salary regulations of the University of Basel.
