An exciting opportunity is available in the Faculty of Medicine for you to join the CHERISH programme team working on a Global Health research programme to improve adult health in sub-Saharan Africa. The position is funded by the National Institute of Health Research through a Global Health Professorship awarded to Professor Nuala McGrath.

Depending on experience the position will be appointed at either a Senior Research Fellow grade, Level 5 - £39,152 or Research Fellow grade, Level 4 - £30,942 - £38,017 per annum. This is Full Time Fixed Term post for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

CHERISH designs and evaluates interventions for couples affected by HIV, diabetes and other health conditions, and is a partnership between the University of Southampton and two South African institutions: Human Sciences Research Council and University of Cape Town.

You will lead on intervention design, using logic models and following the Person-Based Approach to intervention development, conduct qualitative analyses and liaise regularly with our partners regarding primary data collection in South Africa.

Essential Skills

•Ability to work with others in a collegiate and collaborative international interdisciplinary environment

•Motivation and ambition to make a personal contribution to Global Health research

•A PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a relevant subject (health psychology or a closely related social science discipline that has included training in health behaviour change)

•Experience of conducting primary data collection including individual interviews and focus groups, and qualitative analysis

•An interest in improvements to data collection and data management

Experience of working in intervention development with the behaviour change wheel and / or Person-Based approach is highly desirable.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
