The role

A Research Associate position is available in the School of Education at the University of Bristol.

The post-holder will support two research projects, both of which investigate international issues in education in the context the Sustainable Development Goals. The first project, Open Cultural Heritage Resources and Education examines who open educational resources (digital content released for open access) can further intercultural understanding and promote tolerance between ethnic and religious groups in Iraq. The second project, Organizational Perspectives on Accountabilty and Learning, Cases Highlighting Innovative Practice (OPAL-CHIP) is a follow-on from a larger that project (OPAL), and will investigate innovative practices in school management and accountability relationships in Mumbai, India and Kathmandu, Nepal. OPAL-CHIP is run through a partnership with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai) and Tribhuvan University (Kathmandu). Both projects are funded through official development assistance (ODA), OCHRE through the Nahrein Network programme ot University College London (UCL) and OPAL-CHIP through the Raising Learning Outcomes programme funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and development Office (FCDO, formerly DFID). Both projects will require adaptation and modifications to implementation in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

What will you be doing?

Over the course of the contract, you will
  • Contribute to team discussions of research methodology and data collection
  • Analyse qualitative data using thematic analysis
  • Assist in running the project, including project management, finance and team meetings
  • Contribute to the collaborative development and publication of research findings


You should apply if
