Job summary
This is an essential role for Imperial College Union, a registered charity that exists to support and represent all students at Imperial College Union. As the Representation & Advice Manager, you will lead in delivering the Students' Union's primary objectives of representing, supporting and advising students to positively impact the Imperial student experience.

Working alongside the Director of Membership Services and Officer Trustees, you will enhance our support for our elected representatives to be more effective and impactful in driving positive change. You will lead the training and on-going support to empower representatives as well as providing the framework to deliver impactful student led campaigns.

For the Union to be a valued partner to support the delivery of a world class student experience, you will lead our policy work and build our capacity to research into our members needs for undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research communities. As well as managing the Union democratic functions and supporting our representation networks, you will provide leadership to the advice service, be responsible for reviewing, developing and improving our advice and advocacy functions.

Duties and responsibilities
The Representation & Advice Manager is a critical role in delivering the Students' Union's primary objectives of representing, supporting and advising students effectively to enable and support an excellent student experience.

The role is responsible for empowering and enabling elected student representatives to be effective in their roles, and supporting and developing the following services for the organisation:
  • Representation
  • Advice
  • Research and Insight

Alongside the elected Officer Trustees and the Head of Membership Services, the role will lead on developing the strategic and operational goals relating to strengthening the Union's capacity to support and empower student-led change through effective training, support, research and advice.

Essential requirements
The full requirements are set out in the Job Description and Person Specification. However, we'd like to particularly highlight the following as important:
  • Manage the system of support for student representatives across the Union, including Academic and Wellbeing Representatives, Constituent Union leaders, and Liberation & Community Officers, ensuring post holders are adequately supported, effectively trained and empowered to deliver in their roles
  • Provide support for the elected officers in order to maximise their effectiveness and impact with key stakeholders.
  • Manage the way in which the Union works with College to ensure that the systems of Academic and Wellbeing Representation are used to provide feedback on and positively impact the student experience.
  • To lead and develop our Advice Service in line with sector best practice, ensuring our members receive high-quality support and advice that meets their needs.
  • To manage processes of collecting quantitative and qualitative data from student casework to analyse trends and inform feedback given to College by Officer Trustees and student representatives
  • Proactively manage the Union's planning, coordination and analysis of research into student trends and issues at Imperial and across the sector in order to enhance the student experience.
  • Manage the Union's processes for monitoring developments in the College, and providing responses to the following: College policy and consultations; student survey results; external consultations including those from government and the wider educational sector; current and potential future student trends.
  • Experience in stakeholder management - both building and maintaining relationships for the mutual benefit of both parties
  • Knowledge of structures, issues, and trends affecting Higher Education
  • Ability to process and analyse datasets with both qualitative and quantitative information
