This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative ESRC-funded project focusing on the development and application of digital methods for supporting the positive transitions of autistic children and young people. The 'Our Stories' project is a collaboration between the Universities of Southampton and Sussex and local schools and services as part of the Autism Community Research Networks@ Southampton & Sussex ACoRNS. This project will build on our Digital Storytelling work which provides a more holistic, strength-based representation of the child through enabling them to contribute their own perspectives to transition planning and decision-making.

The post-holder will liaise closely with our community-based project partners to co-develop, evaluate and disseminate the digital methods for supporting transitions within and between settings. We will use a range of digital technologies including video cameras, Wearcams, 360° video, and Virtual Reality to create Digital Stories with the children and families who are making transitions and with the settings or context to which the children are transitioning.

Candidates will need to be willing to travel to the sites of our collaborating partners as well as work from home or on campus (dependent on prevailing COVID guidance in all cases). Candidates should have knowledge about, and commitment to, improving the lives of autistic children and their families, and be comfortable with participatory approaches to research that involves a range of digital technologies and qualitative methods. Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a Social or Life Sciences discipline (e.g. Education, Psychology).

The project is appointing 2 x 0.5FTE research fellow posts for 12 months:this one is based in Education at Southampton apply via University of Southampton and the other in Psychology at Sussex apply via the University of Sussex. We are open to candidates applying for one or both roles. Applications close on Monday 4th January 2021 with interviews taking place on 13th or 14th January 2021.
