Job Description
1 East Medical Specialties The Clinical Nurse isresponsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide evidence-based careand to continuously monitor and evaluate practice to ensure safe passage ofpatients that is in the best interest of populations served. 1E Medical Specialties is a36-bed, inpatient medicine unit. We care for adults typically on the inpatientmedicine service who suffer from acute and/or chronic illness. Our teamapproach and changing environment make it a great place to learn andbuild/expand on nursing assessment, delegation, prioritization, criticalthinking and time management skills. We have a team dedicated to processimprovement, problem solving, and teambuilding, which has allowed us to becomea unit where everyone is a part of the solution. Responsibilities: A listing of the keyresponsibilities 1. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identifyoutcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care. 2. Utilizes critical thinkingand the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in patient status,taking action to modify the plan of care or to elevate to the care team asnecessary. 3. Practices in accordance withthe ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold their autonomy indecision-making, ensure informed consent and assist patients in families inexpressing self-determination. 4. Actively seeks feedback andacts to improve performance. 5. Engages in the governance ofpractice. 6. Manages interpersonalrelationships for self and with others. 7. Mentors colleagues for theadvancement of nursing practice and the profession. 8. Assumes authority andaccountability for the nursing care of patients while appropriately delegatingelements of care to others members of the care delivery team in accordance withlaws, regulations and policies and procedures. 9. Prioritizes and organizestime to optimize patient outcomes. 10. Actively seeks out the mostcurrent evidence and standards and applies and translates to daily practice. 11. Role models a culture ofinquiry, developing new knowledge by contributing to research, qualityimprovement, and evidence-based practice at the local level. 12. Transferor 13. Communicates effectively ina variety of formats in all areas of practice. 14. Actively partners withothers to effect change that produces positive outcomes through the exchange ofknowledge. 15. Precepts the student nurse,nurse extern, nurse resident, experienced clinical nurse and other members of thehealthcare team. 16. Performs other duties asrequired or assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * Graduate from anaccredited Nursing Program required. * BSN with one year ofexperience or ADN with two years of experience * Must obtain andmaintain clinical competencies within assigned unit. * Excellent written,verbal and computer skills required. * Demonstratedabilities with problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscalresponsibility and teamwork. * Ability to workeffectively in groups of employees and with patients and patient families isessential. *All Associate Degree (ADN) preparednurses must commit to completing a BSN or higher nursing degree within 10 yearsof their hire date. Required Licensure/Certification Skills: * LicensedRegistered Nurse in New Hampshire required. * Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificaterequired upon hire and as applicable, higher level per unit certificationrequirements as stated on the grid attached to the AHAand Life Support Policy.
