We are currently hiring a Biophysical Chemist with objectives to contribute the development of life-saving medicines and to join fellow pharmaceutical scientists in supporting bioprocess development and product characterization by applying biophysical techniques. This position is based in Chesterfield, MO.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Explore, develop and implementelectron microscopy (EM)technology, in particular cryo-EM, to characterize proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, synthetic polymers, viral capsids, nanoparticles, etc. to support understanding the biotherapeutic products and bioprocess development.
  • Apply new applications and emerging technology around advanced spectroscopy, state-of-art molecular separation techniques, and other biophysical tools.
  • Interact with colleagues to provide biophysical characterization for the project teams and solve problems that contribute to process and product understanding and quality attributes.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills, especially in composing regulatory documents.
  • Use a high level of scientific judgment to adapt and create new analytical methodology and techniques by applying breadth of knowledge and prior work experience.
  • Mentor and coach junior scientists.
  • Identify and develop scientific activities/projects through both internal and external collaborations to support business goals.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in physical biochemistry, analytical biochemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or relate field, with 5+ years of post-doctoral and academic/industrial experience in working with biological molecules.
  • Strong skills and extensive experience in cryo-EM is required. Deep knowledge around EM image analysis and modeling is also required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Skills and knowledge in molecular spectroscopy such as NMR, circular dichroism, vibrational spectroscopy, light scattering, etc., is highly desired.
  • Familiarity about separation technology including liquid chromatography, analytical ultracentrifugation, field flow fractionation, etc. is also desired.
  • Knowledge in polymer science, pharmaceutical sciences, statistical analysis, structural biology and molecular modeling will be considered.
  • Skills and experience in mass spectrometry, biological assays and other general analytical techniques is also desired.
