What You Will Achieve

As a Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be responsible for supporting the preclinical evaluation and early clinical development of candidate viral vaccines.

This is for Non-PhDs and is a laboratory-based position. Candidate should have a strong background and understanding of immune response and immunology of the vaccine-induced protection. Candidate will be responsible to develop and perform various primary immune cell -based and serological assays to monitor the cellular and antibody immune responses elicited by vaccine candidates from different platforms, like protein subunit, RNA and adjuvant-vaccines. This position will also be responsible for regular laboratory maintenance, update sample inventory for different studies and preparing samples for testing. As needed, you will also assist with molecular and virology work to generate plasmid constructs for RNA and reverse genetic virus stocks plus optimizing RNA vaccines. The Work is to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant SOP guidelines and current Good Laboratory Practice (cGLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines where appropriate. The incumbent will be part of a dynamic team and should possess a strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to develop and perform ELISpot/FluoroSpot-based assays to measure cellular (B-cell and T-cell) immune response to vaccine candidates in preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Isolate PBMCs from whole blood of humans/NHP and process tissues from mice/rodents for single-cell suspension to be used for phenotyping and functional assays.
  • Perform multi-color flow cytometry to investigate the cellular phenotype and function.
  • Analyze antibody responses to vaccine candidates using techniques that include (but are not limited to) ELISAs, Luminex, cell culture, virus propagation, hemagglutination inhibition assays, neutralization assays.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and perform new techniques in immunology, virology and molecular biology.
  • Analyze, document and report data in accordance with Pfizer/cGLP requirements. In collaboration with manager, interpret and summarize experimental data.
  • Present experimental results at group meetings.
  • Generate and characterize samples and reagents used to perform necessary assays and support maintenance of laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the group with different projects.
  • Satisfactorily complete all safety training in conformance with Departmental requirements.
  • Where applicable, performs job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP/GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Immunology, Virology or Biomedical science with more than 6 years of research experience.
  • Industry experience of at least 3 years is a must.
  • Knowledge of methods in cellular immunology and vaccine development is highly preferred. Proficiency with personal computers including Word, Excel or GraphPad Prism, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and flow cytometry.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Basic laboratory training in aseptic technique is essential.
  • Strong communication skills and interest to work in matrix environment to co-ordinate with people from different expertise.
  • Ability to work with animals samples, mice/rat spleen, lymph nodes and blood, human/non-human primate (NHP) samples and infectious agents safely.
  • Able to work effectively in a highly visible research program with time-constrained milestones.
