As Senior Director & Head Oncology Field Medical Strategy and Operations, you will be responsible for providing leadership and support to the US Oncology Field Medical Teams and US Oncology Medical Affairs Teams through implementation of innovative processes, best practice sharing, project management, field communications, field insights integration and action planning, optimizing field metrics/impact measures, and providing operational excellence, including budget and resource planning, to support the Head, Oncology Field Medical and field leadership teams.

  • Serve as a member of the extended Medical Affairs Leadership Team and Field MSL Leadership Team providing project management and implementation guidance, including leadership and team communications, through operational excellence.
  • Provide operational leadership and compliance oversight of the development and execution of Field Strategies/Plans for Brand and pipeline.
  • Continuously assesses the strategic operations and implementation needs of medical affairs and the MSL and mCTL teams ensuring best practices are pulled through from headquarters to the field personnel and vice versa.
  • Oversee the operational execution of Field Medical Plans across brands and pipelines to ensure alignment and field medical external engagement policy compliance.
  • Provide oversight and track the progress of field initiatives and projects to ensure metrics, insights and impact are captured. Ensure appropriate communication and reporting with internal stakeholders. Lead reporting metrics and oversight needs for mCTL team. Partner with global and us teams to appropriately commit to metrics aligned to medical strategic plans and prioritized assets to ensure KPIs and impact measures are aligned and appropriate for US field MSLs and mCTLs.
  • Develops and oversees a process for capturing, cataloging, analyzing and disseminating key lessons to be learned from initiatives, and provides recommendations on how to modify strategies based on current status of field programs and competitive risk factors
  • Manage operational input and output for the field Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other necessary systems ensuring relevant and timely reports and insight evaluation, training support, and system change requests.
  • Identify new and implement new innovative projects, future technology needs and develop scope for related projects.
  • Simplify the ways of working for field teams and identify information that is systematically stored by other teams where communication could be automated to field teams to improve agility and execution
  • Provide operational leadership with internal Strategy & Operations Heads including medical, commercial/brand, clinical, global, and study operations teams.
  • Ensure strong collaboration and communication with field teams and internal teams related to investigator studies process and help provide resolution as needed for process challenges.
  • Provide recommendations and support for field medical leadership meeting agendas, topics, follow-up. Help co-lead with Head, Oncology Field Medical both core team and extended leadership team meetings.
  • Keep abreast of MSL competitive and external best practices, trends, and industry benchmarking (KPIs, capabilities, training, etc.) and collaborate with field leaders to identify gaps and plans for evolution of the field medical MSL role and mCTL roles.
  • Provide recommendations and help implement field medical leaders team development plans, high performing team activities, vendor and training support.
  • In partnership with the Head, Oncology Field Medical, lead the annual budget and strategic planning process for field medical teams.
  • In partnership with Head, Oncology Field Medical, lead national team communications, business update planning calls, and other national level meeting plans involving field medical teams such as National Sales Meeting coordination, etc.
  • Provide operational excellence and reporting support for the Head, Medical Care Team.
  • Support the Head, Field Medical and Head, Medical Care team in proper planning and preparation of key meetings/presentations (Steering Committee meetings, Business reviews, National field presentations, etc.). Help identify and support follow-up actions.
  • Partner with Head, Oncology Field Medical and provide expert knowledge/feedback to support compliance with SOPs, policies, etc. Identify and communicate risks and provide coaching, review, and guidance to internal teams, MSL, mCTLs, medical leadership, and other internal stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Support the Head, Field Medical and field leadership team and communicate progress to plan on field objectives, provide regularly summaries and risks to leadership team and recommendations for field leadership focus and coaching.
  • Lead annual field resource assessments to ensure field medical FTE, budget, etc. aligned to organizational strategic needs and plan for future FTE needs and organizational model design needs. Provide recommendations for annual budget and resources.
  • Provide people leadership, management, coaching, development, guidance, and oversight to the Directors of Field Medical Operations for Oncology Field Medical
  • This role will report into the Head of Field Medical Affairs, Oncology


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • 8+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals or equivalent experience preferred. 5+ years prior pharmaceutical industry experience is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in oncology and/or field medical preferred
  • 5+ years of drug development / commercialization related experience gained within Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Regulatory, Project Management/Planning or related functions is required.
  • Ability to travel 20-40%


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • Advanced science/medical/healthcare degree(s), MS, Pharm D. or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Project management certification is preferred.
  • Experience leading teams and/or leadership matrix management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, operations, initiative implementation, system management, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external engagements, investigators and/or key opinion leaders, preferred.
