ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer's Inflammation and Immunology (I&I) Research Unit is developing novel therapies that change patients' lives.This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional scientist to apply deep computational and statistical expertise to transforming drug discovery research.

The rapid growth of high-dimensional biomedical data at all levels of granularity together with advancement in powerful computational methods offer new opportunities for science-based drug discovery. There is a great need to integrate genetics and multi-omics data with human disease and clinical studies for better understanding of disease mechanisms, target discovery, combination therapy, and precision medicine.The Inflammation & Immunology Research Unit is capitalizing on this emerging science with an embedded and dedicated Systems Immunology group to influence all aspects of the drug discovery pipeline.

If you are a research scientist with a passion for solving biomedical problems using complex, high-dimensional genetics and multi-omics data in conjunction with innovative computational approaches, then the Systems Immunology group is the team for you.As a Computational Biologist, you will be an agile and core contributor to the impactful, data-driven research in Pfizer's R&D organization.

Your core mission is to support our quest for novel targets, better therapeutic molecules, and precision medicine strategies, at all stages of drug discovery process in the Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit.You will develop and apply advanced computational and statistical methods to integrated analyses of multiple data modalities, to provide novel actionable insights for drug discovery.

The role will be in close alignment with colleagues within the Systems Immunology function as well as project teams and partner lines to inform Inflammation and Immunology drug discovery pipeline.We also expect the successful candidate to communicate the value and efficiency of new computational biology research and capabilities in order to advance awareness and implementation throughout Pfizer's R&D.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to execute science-based drug discovery at one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, at the Pfizer Biomedical Institute based in the Cambridge Innovation Hub.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams, and provide computational and statistical expertise to advance drug discovery projects in Inflammation & Immunology Research Unit.
  • Apply computational and statistical approaches and provide analysis of multi-omics data to identify novel therapeutic targets, review and validate therapeutic hypotheses, better understand disease mechanisms and causal pathways, and inform precision medicine strategies.
  • Actively identify new opportunities to develop and implement advanced computational methods, including probabilistic modeling, causal inference, and machine learning, for innovative research in drug discovery.
  • Collaborate with Systems Immunology team members in performing genetics and multi-omics data analyses and integrating public and proprietary omics data resources for novel insights into disease biology and therapeutics.
  • Communicate analyses and study findings with internal project teams, leadership, and external collaborators.
  • Publish research findings in high quality scientific journals.
  • Work collaboratively with computational biologists in Integrative Biology to further the development of Pfizer-wide integrated omics data analyses.
  • Participate in collaborations with external academic and industry partners to transform our computational systems immunology toolkit and expand multi-omics data access.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline; 0-3 years post-PhD work experience in an academic or biopharma/biotech setting.
  • 5+ years of relevant research experience in applying advanced computational and statistical approaches to solving biomedical problems.
  • Strong background and experience in Bayesian inference, probabilistic modeling, causal inference, and/or machine learning.
  • Strong experience in analyzing multi-omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, single-cell RNA-seq, microbiome, etc.) for biomedical research.
  • Proficient in statistical programming languages such as R. Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Solid background in human biology / medicine, with practical working knowledge of Immunology & Inflammation and related diseases.
  • Enthusiasm for solving biomedical problems, and proven ability from ideation to finding computational solutions and advancing biomedical discovery.
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in publications.
  • Work experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting is preferred.
