As Director, Medical Analytics Respiratory / Primary Care Insights Lead, you are member of the US Pharma Medical Analytics and insights team. The purpose of this team is to enable and embed a data, analytics, and insights driven culture that inspires action, through effective collaboration and influence, to address the needs of patients today and anticipate their needs in the future.

You will be a trusted consultant/advisor to Medical Affairs and the business, partnering with one of our key therapeutic areas (Respiratory) to generate and uncover findings and insights that will enable better operational and strategic decision-making.

In GSK Medical Affairs, we focus on communicating the science behind our diseases and medicines in order to help patients, clinicians and healthcare systems make better informed decisions that beneficially impact patients' lives. Insights have been recognized as a key enabler to help us deeply understand our stakeholders needs and motivations.

More specifically, GSK Medical Affairs' goal is to uncover and embed findings and insights to impact the following key focus areas:
  • Input to Innovation - new molecule development, improved clinical trial design, evidence generation (for publications, etc.)
  • Input to Performance - enabling robust external, scientific engagement with HCPs and the Scientific Community through congresses/conferences, speaker programs, Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) interactions, Medical Information data, etc
  • Input to Trust - enabling GSK to rapidly respond to or anticipate needs in the marketplace so we can advocate for the patient and customer needs at every stage of development


This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following
  • Develop a deep understanding of the therapeutic areas (TAs) you work in to act as the expert on these TAs within the Medical Analytics and Insights team (including in-depth knowledge of products, customer segments, competitive environment, strategies/tactics);
  • Execute certain types of analytics, including market research, industry trends (e.g. competitive benchmarking, best practices) and non-modeling secondary analyses. Partner with Medical Analytics Centers of Excellence to help scope and interpret results of their work (e.g., reporting metrics, text analytics/natural language processing, advanced analyses);
  • Understand and synthesize multiple findings including real world data (e.g. claims), reporting metrics (e.g. MSL call data), voice of the customer (e.g. advisory boards, market research, social media) to present a holistic, integrated picture to identify opportunities and influence action;
  • Mature findings to insights, facilitating discussions with Medical Analytic team & Medical Affairs/TA teams to identify customer motivations, beliefs and needs (including recommending additional analyses to supplement findings); Collaborate with Global Medical in sharing key findings and insights to shape global medical strategies
  • Actively lead the articulation of insights within key strategic forums. Champion standard insights approaches, frameworks, and analytic methods; Demonstrate strong leadership and influence in driving to the customer insight for the best decision making.
  • Build and earn trust as an unbiased consultant/advisor and business partner to the TA. Build strong partnerships with Commercial Insights & Analytics team, Global and R&D to ensure insights are shared across the enterprise.
  • Lead without authority across the stakeholder matrix. Drive and challenge opportunities for action and inclusion within strategic planning and tactical execution plans.
  • Use compelling, impactful storytelling skills to simplify the complex and present recommendations that inspire action;
  • Stay up to date on best practices and methods with customer research, market dynamics, insight methods, and external benchmarks/practices to drive best in class insight discovery.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • BA/BS in applied quantitative sciences discipline (Business, Life Sciences, Applied Science, Analytics, Market Research, Healthcare Consulting)
  • 8-10 years' experience (including 3+ years in healthcare) in applying analytics and insights for business decisions (market research, analytics, forecasting, health outcomes research, etc.) OR 5-8 years with an advanced degree (including 3+ years in healthcare)
  • Experience in a leadership role (successful matrix leadership or enterprise leadership)


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • MBA, MS, MA, or PhD in applied quantitative sciences discipline (preferred); MD or PharmD with advanced quantitative science degree (ideal)
  • Experience in Pharmaceuticals/Medical Field strongly preferred
  • Curiosity and the ability to “peel back the layers of the onion”
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong verbal and written communication/ presentation skills - Adept story telling skills with and without the development of clear, communication materials
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and confidently defend informed recommendations
  • Ability to lead through change and inspire agility/flexibility amongst team; comfort with ambiguity
  • Proven ability to interpret stakeholder needs. Ability to negotiate and prioritize most impactful areas
  • Proficiency in matrix management and leadership effectiveness without authority; Proven ability to work effectively and build relationships across teams
