Are you seeking an opportunity to advance leading vaccine technologies through application of your technical expertise in drug delivery and technology development? If so, this Expert Scientist role in the GSK vaccine organization will provide you with an opportunity to apply your scientific and technical capabilities!

As an Expert Scientist at GSK, you will lead technical and development evaluations of internal and external technologies that enable applications using alternate routes of administration (parental and non-parental) for mRNA vaccine targets. Using your scientific knowledge and advanced technical background, YOU will work alongside high performing scientists and technical team members to drive application of novel technologies in the development of novel vaccines.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to advance new technologies within GSK and progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…
  • Evaluate internal and external technologies related to drug delivery, controlled release, and routes of administration.
  • Lead and manage collaborations for planning, design, execution, and data interpretation for specific development projects, appropriate to clinical development phases, and following the Quality by Design framework.
  • Interpret results and prepare and communicate conclusions and recommendations for next steps to relevant members.
  • Make sound scientific/technical and business decisions based on a balance of data, analysis and experience.
  • Solve complex problems through collaborations with others, taking a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Utilizes scientific knowledge and experience to influence technical decisions.
  • Provide guidance to new team members and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Function effectively as a core team member on multiple concurrent projects and leads small projects
  • Generate strong relationships in the area of technical development with high quality partners beneficial to the organization, both internally and externally, to strengthen development/implementation of new methods/technologies.
  • Communicate effectively within Technical R&D (TRD) , with other departments and with external stakeholders and can defend scientific and technical decisions at the appropriate technical board.
  • Prepare and present scientific data within TRD including Technical Development Team and may represent GSK externally (conferences, etc.)
  • Author technical sections of internal and external reports with minimal supervision.
  • Benchmark specific technologies in own functional area to bring technology to state of the art.
  • Contribute to and drive strategy and technical development planning and accountability in the execution thereof.
  • Utilizes innovative mindset to provide cutting-edge solutions for technical challenges that yield tangible value to the organization and patients.
  • Ensure execution of the function's risk assessment and escalate at relevant bodies. Development of mitigation plans.
  • Act as a voice and ambassador of its department at various governance bodies / meetings.
  • Lead and implement GxP / EHS / QA rules and regulations.


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • PhD degree in Bio/Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bio/Chemistry, or related scientific field, with 3+ of relevant industry experience, OR MS with 6+ years of experience, OR BS with 9+ years of experience
  • Industrial experience and publication history in the evaluation, development, and implementation of novel alternate (dermal, inhaled, mucosal, etc.) routes of drug/vaccine delivery; RNA delivery a plus
  • Experience in the technical development of complex formulations to aide drug/vaccine stability and delivery; emphasis on RNA a plus
  • Hands-on experience with polymer and/or liposome/lipid nanoparticle development
  • Hands on experience in delivery vehicle characterization (structure, lipid composition, drug encapsulation, particle characterization, stability, drug release)
  • Experience with biopharm and/or vaccine product development process


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead, design, conduct, and analyze experiments, working cross-functionally to engage subject matter experts and capabilities in a global organization.
  • Experience mentoring/leading junior scientists in experimental design, data analysis, data presentation, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and lead in a team/matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships that drive product understanding
  • Competency to influence scientific and technical vision and strategy in local and global organizations
