About the role:

The Global Head of Talent and Leadership will be responsible for developing innovative strategies to ensure Gilead's talent practices drive the future success of the organization. In this role, the Global Head of Talent and Leadership will work with senior business and HR leaders to ensure a strong pipeline towards Gilead's most critical leadership roles. This role will also be responsible for ensuring approaches to talent identification and development are inclusive, transparent and accessible across the organization and at all levels, leading to a more diverse and agile workforce.

This role reports to the VP, Talent, Development and Inclusion and is located in Foster City, California.

Responsibilities:
  • Defines an integrated Talent and Leadership strategy, with clarity of philosophy and approach based on Gilead's business needs and goals/ metrics to track progress.
  • In partnership with Talent Acquisition, develops a clear talent value proposition aligned with the overall strategy.
  • Ensures development of inclusive approaches to leadership and talent development for all levels.
  • Oversees succession management for executives, including aligning Talent to Value' practices, and ensures plans are in place to ensure success of incumbents, as well as accelerating development of talent to increase readiness.
  • Defines talent management and leadership development capabilities and frameworks required to support business; including talent to value, critical role identification, definition of leadership potential, succession management and talent assessment.
  • Ensures systems, tools, processes and technology that will support talent outcomes, including increased talent movement for development and faster allocation to meet business needs.
  • Partners with Talent, Development and Inclusion partner and HR Business partners to ensure talent strategy and leadership practices reflect business requirements.
  • Utilizes data and analytics to create insights and embeds in decision support as part of talent and leadership practices.
  • Collaborates across the Talent, Development and Inclusion team and other COEs to identify trends, insights and opportunities to address in both our Talent strategies and development of solutions.
  • Leads a team of Talent and Leadership practitioners; focused on building organizational capabilities and applying their expertise to key business projects and challenges.
  • Is a thought leader in Talent and Leadership and leverages external thinking and research to shape our internal practices and build knowledge and awareness.
  • Ensures manager and HR capability to support and enable talent and leadership practices are identified and plans are in place to support.
  • May oversee or provide leadership to agile and/ or cross-functional projects (e.g. Advancing Black Leadership Strategy) to ensure realization of strategic priorities and embed a customer focused approach to development.


Expertise:
  • Leadership: 15 years of experience leading functions across business units; experience across talent management/acquisition, leadership development, organizational design, inclusion & diversity, and culture is beneficial.
  • Industry Experience: Experience within the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry preferred.
  • Analytical Expertise: Utilizing data-driven approaches to develop insight and diagnose opportunities, as well as inform decision making.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated understanding of strategic and operational drivers of business performance.
  • Global mindset: The ideal candidate will bring global experience, having partnered with teams across geographies.

  • Ability to leverage data and insights to diagnose, define focus and align opportunities. Takes a systems view to challenges and opportunities.
