Job Summary
Campus Services is looking for an outstanding Content Marketing Assistant to join their busy marketing team. Campus Services is responsible for a very large range of services within the University of Birmingham: student accommodation, catering, cleaning and waste management, conferences and events, delivering the University's post, day nurseries, security, Winterbourne House & Garden, ensuring we remain at the pinnacle of University sport in the UK and more.
We are looking for a Content Marketing Assistant to write creative, clear and concise content. Alongside skills in creative copywriting, the postholder will be passionate, enthusiastic and a team player - keen to support all areas of Campus Services, engage with colleagues across the department and keep abreast of developments and projects across the entire portfolio, as your words will inform and engage our target audiences.
Main Duties
Reporting directly to the Marketing Manager, this post works within a team of marketing, digital and design professionals. The post holder will be responsible for creating content across the Campus Services portfolio, to different audiences, and across a range of channels including social, websites, emails and printed materials. The successful candidate will have experience in using SEO principles to maximise copy's reach, and editing/proofing materials.
We're looking for someone with at least 2 years' experience, who has a flair for writing, a love of creative communication and the ability to switch tone of voice to suit the brand and audience. Writing for niche markets, you'll be able to grasp the needs of our customers and work to communicate with them in the most effective ways, supporting marketing strategy across individual campaigns and big-picture pieces. You will be expected to keep on top of current trends and be able to advise on the most effective content marketing strategies needed for our campaigns.

Responsibilities
- Create engaging copy and content in line with the marketing strategies for individual business areas across Campus Services
- Copywriting across a range of channels, including websites (in line with SEO guidance), social media and email marketing
- Interpret copywriting briefs to understand project requirements
- Edit and proof work to ensure high editorial standards are met across all content outputs
- Collaborate with creatives and marketers in the team to assess project needs and help with messaging
- Drive brand consistency across all communications, supporting with the development and implementation of brand guidelines
- Undertake research, to inform content that adds value for customers and builds brand quality
- Deliver a range of content-led campaigns, in partnership with the rest of the team
- Cultivate relationships with colleagues across Campus Services to support communications strategies
- Liaise with customers and staff to create interview or customer-focused pieces
- Stay up to date with current trends and competitors within the editorial sphere
- See projects through the whole creative lifestyle, from inception to deployment
Required knowledge and skills
- Mastery of the English language and exceptional communication skills are essential, including evidence of copywriting across a range of channels including email, social media and print.
- Demonstrable experience of content creation using SEO practices for websites. This should include the ability to maximise opportunities for engagement, indexing, ranking, click-throughs and conversion.
- To produce onsite copy, meta content, guest posts, features, blog posts, press releases, white papers, guides, promotional copy for offers and competitions and other content as required.
- Research and write ebooks, guides and infographics.
- Write advertising and editorial copy.
- Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and developing content that engage, inform and motivate.
- Demonstrable experience of the use of social media measurement tools like Hootsuite.
- An in-depth understanding of copywriting best practice.
- A strong eye for detail, design, typesetting, formatting and engaging content
- An ability to create relevant content
- Professional communication skills (written and oral)
- Up to date with the latest trends.
- A driven and passionate approach to work.
- A self-starter with a great attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure, meeting tight deadlines via excellent organisation and planning.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum 2 year's copywriting and content marketing experience
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience
- Proven working experience in copywriting/content marketing
