RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person will be required to:
  • Provide high quality information and analysis to support the University of Pretoria in its strategic management, planning and decision-making requirements;
  • Develop institutional planning frameworks, responses to national policies and performance indicators;
  • Monitor institutional performance against strategic goals;
  • Initiate institutional research, market surveys and planning projects for enhanced decision making;
  • Develop models for enrolment planning and provide inputs to the growth strategy of UP;
  • Render fundamental contributions to the development and maintenance of the growth strategy of UP and state annual goals per UG programme for the intake of new students in accordance with the growth strategy;
  • Provide accurate and up-to-date institutional information for planning, evaluation and research;
  • Provide strategic data support to the Executive and senior management, and in additional to ad hoc requests;
  • Develop and maintain an IRA data warehouse and institutional dashboards;
  • Manage the UP HEMIS Student Data Submissions to the DHET;
  • Provide audited HEMIS data in support of effective decision-making, planning and budgeting e.g., data for the enrolment planning tables, Foundation Year progress report and the calculation of faculty plan indicators;
  • Plan, design and coordinate the different functions and duties in the department, i.e. Institutional Analytics, HEMIS Reporting, Management Information, Business Intelligence and Market Surveys;
  • Management of staff and resources.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related qualification;
  • A total of ten years work experience in an institutional research/planning environment;
  • At least five years' work experience in a university environment in a management role.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Knowledge of the higher education environment;
  • Knowledge of HEMIS (Higher Education Management Information System);
  • Multi-disciplinary thinking abilities and insight to find systems solutions to problems;
  • Knowledge on mathematical and statistical solution methods and techniques and the use of relevant computer software;
  • Knowledge of basic principles of strategic planning;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge;
  • SAS, SPSS or related statistical software;
  • Data warehousing knowledge;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Business ethics and professional integrity;
  • Proficient in writing skills with regards to user interaction, document creation and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: Interact with internal stakeholders, business and external stakeholders at the highest level;
  • Effective time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize and function under pressure;
  • High level of leadership skills;
  • Experience in working in a team;
  • Attention to detail.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • A Doctoral Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related qualification;
  • Member of a professional body, e.g., SAAIR.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
