The Finke laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to investigate tissue-specific immune functions of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in health and disease. We have a long-standing interest in ILC biology. The focus of our current research is to better understand the molecular mechanisms of tissue-specific ILC functions (see also: Nature communications, 2020, 11, 1794; PNAS 2014, 111, 12835) and ILC responses to homeostatic and inflammatory stimuli. For our studies, we use gene editing in primary cells, genetically modified mice and systemic analysis of ILCs from transcriptome to protein levels and spatial localization in various tissues. The expected start date is May-June 2021.

Your position
  • Investigate ILC-mediated immunoregulatory networks, ILC interactions with other immune cells and tissue stromal cells
  • Answering basic research questions with a relationship to human diseases

Your profile
  • PhD or MD/PhD in immunology, cell or molecular biology or similar discipline
  • Proven expertise in two or more of the following: in vivo experimental immunology, multi-colour flow cytometry, cell imaging, advanced primary cell and organ culture, 'omics (RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, etc.)
  • Hands-on knowledge of experimental mouse models
  • Evidence of productivity from publications in peer-reviewed research journals originating from PhD or postdoctoral work
  • Excellent organization skills, self-motivation and creativity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Knowledge in bioinformatics (programming and handling of big data) is a plus.
  • Due to work permit issues, a current resident of Switzerland or a legal resident of EU countries is preferred

We offer you
  • An international team at the Department of Biomedicine Basel with cutting-edge technologies, experimental mouse models and dynamic interactions with other departments, Institutes and University hospitals in Basel city
  • The opportunity to be part of a strong and collaborative immunology community in Basel ( ) and in the Upper Rhine Area ( )
  • State-of-the-art core facilities (flow and mass cytometry, genomic, proteomic, imaging, bioinformatics)
  • Scientific mentoring and academic training with the aim to develop and independent research profile
  • The initial contract will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension
