The Molecular Pharmacy group at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is focused on early stages of drug discovery, including target identification and validation, the design, screening, characterization and optimization of molecules with drug-like properties, and the development of novel therapeutic concepts. The group follows a highly integrated and multidisciplinary approach, including drug design, compound synthesis and characterization, protein engineering, target preparation, assay development, and interaction analyses.

Your position

A 1-year Laboratory Technician position is available from September 1, 2021 in the Molecular Pharmacy group. The project is part of an industry collaboration with Polyneuron Pharmaceuticals AG, and relates to an extension of their Antibody-Catch technology™ platform using glycopolymers to treat antibody-mediated immune diseases. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in an inclusive team environment, interact with industry collaborators, and will be encouraged to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Main project responsibilities will include:
  • performing wet lab experiments including ELISA, western blot, surface plasmon resonance, flow cytometry, and imaging techniques (incl. immunohistochemistry)
  • working with a mouse model to study (auto)immune disease
  • developing assays to determine DMPK properties
  • conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment
  • support of day-to-day organizational and safety aspects of a laboratory
  • compiling, reviewing, presenting results, and writing reports
  • training of junior researchers in laboratory techniques


Your profile

Candidates should hold a degree in a biology-related discipline from a recognized institution, and have previous experience in molecular biology and working with mouse/rat animal models (preferred FELASA B). Technical expertise in areas such as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic assays, cell-based assays, immunogenicity assays, biomarker assays, and respective bioanalytical technologies is advantageous.
