A summer research internship is available in the Department of Clinical Data Science at the Foster City, CA, campus of Gilead Sciences. The candidate should be enrolled in a graduate program majoring in Public Health (i.e., epidemiology, biostatistics, medicine) or a related field.

Essential Functions:

Under general supervision,

  • Participate in the analysis of real-world data (RWD) data using machine learning frameworks to estimate/generate real-world evidence to quantify drug exposure or disease burden in a population of interest
  • Application of machine learning techniques and causal inference modeling in pharmacoepidemiology
  • Contributes to preparation and review of manuscripts and presentations
  • Prepare and deliver presentation based on independent project at the end of the internship


Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Graduate student in Epidemiology, Biomedical Engineering program or related field enrolled in the Fall Semester after completing the internship
  • Good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are required
  • Interacts with other departments as directed to complete assigned tasks
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail, teamwork and initiative; maintains meticulous attention to project deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, scikit-learn, Tensorflow, kera, and cloud computing (Azure)
  • Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks of internship in a full-time capacity between May and September
