Looking to work with Maritime Autonomous Systems?

We are offering you an ideal opportunity to be involved with research into the application of robotics to heterogenous squads; mission planning and execution of multi-domain maritime autonomous systems; and developing viable solutions that will be tested in both synthetic and field trials.

You will be working with the range of maritime autonomous systems including surface platforms, sub-surface platforms and interacting with colleagues working with aerial platforms. In addition, you will be participating regularly in field trials on locations within the UK with occasional overseas trips to present research findings to conferences.

To be successful you will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications in engineering (maritime, mechanical, aerospace, or software) or computational science. You will have experience programming in at least one of Python, C++, or JavaScript programming languages and demonstrate excellent communication skills and the proven ability both in writing and verbal for formal reporting. It is essential you are able to demonstrate initiative in problem solving and able to work independently under your own initiative.

You will be working under the supervision of Dr Jon Downes and closely with the industry sponsor.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
