These are exciting times for Criminology at Southampton. Our suite of undergraduate degree programmes in Criminology are attracting exceptional numbers of well-qualified students. Building on our success in REF2014 and our sustained student intake over the last few years we are now seeking to recruit an inspiring and enthusiastic Criminologist to join our friendly, hard-working team in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology. The Department was in the UK top five for research power and output (Latest REF, 2014) and is home to The Institute of Criminal Justice Research (ICJR). Criminology is ranked Top 10 in the UK (The Times Good University Guide 2021). Our BSc Criminology and Psychology programme is the only Russell Group Criminology and Psychology programme with British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation. Our Postgraduate programmes are ranked 9th in the Sunday Times 2021 Good University Guide, and 5th in the Russell Group.

The successful candidate will further develop the curriculum that we offer on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, enrich the intellectual culture of Criminology within the Department, and share in the strategic development of, and continuing investment in, Criminology as central to Social Sciences at Southampton. We welcome applications from all areas of Criminology, but especially encourage teaching and scholarship in counter-terrorism, including violent far right and Incel extremism, conspiratorial extremism such as QAnon, and work at the intersection of criminology, psychology, anthropology and quantitative research methods.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Criminology or aligned subject area completed or close to completion. You will also have the expertise to significantly strengthen our teaching profile and contribute to our intellectual community. You will have relevant experience of teaching in Higher Education and be able to evidence emerging strengths in research and publication.

Be part of the dynamic development of Criminology at the University of Southampton, an institution in the top 100 of world Universities (QS 2021) and one of the UK's top 15 research-intensive universities.

Two Job Descriptions are attached. One for the Level 4 Teaching Fellow position, one for the Level 5 Senior Teaching Fellow position. Whether you are appointed at Level 4 or Level 5 will be dependent on experience.

We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
