Dean of Social Sciences
We are seeking a visionary Dean of Social Sciences who shares our commitment to drive forward and build on our current achievements, and who will proactively seek out opportunities to champion the work of our staff and students on the global stage.
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Southampton is unique among its Russell Group comparators. It includes the School of Mathematical Sciences, the Schools of Economic, Social and Political Sciences, Southampton Law School, Southampton Education School and Southampton Business School. It is also home to the Doctoral College and the Centre for Higher Education Practice.
The Faculty is recognised nationally and internationally for its sector-leading research, enterprise and education, which when combined, create a unique environment for developing more than 3,200 undergraduates. Our disciplines regularly rank in the top quartile within the National Student Survey, complemented by a strong postgraduate community of over 2,500 students from an exceptionally diverse range of backgrounds.
The role
As the Dean of Faculty, you will shape the future of Social Sciences at Southampton. Your innovative thinking and passion to make a difference, will ensure the continued success of the Faculty. You will play a pivotal role in the strategic development and operation of its education, research and enterprise. You will be part of the University's executive leadership team, reporting directly to the President and Vice-Chancellor. As such you will have responsibility for the strategic direction and performance of the University. You will represent the University and Faculty externally to enhance the reputation and contribute to the University's development activities.
About you
You will be a determined and outward-looking person with values that match our own: collegiality, quality, internationalisation and sustainability. You will have a deep understanding of the global Higher Education sector, as well as a proven ability to lead and manage innovative change throughout an organisation. You will be able to think both analytically and creatively, handle complexity and empower and support people, while cultivating and shaping diverse teams.
What we can offer you
We are committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity by attracting, developing, and retaining staff from many different backgrounds to create an inclusive working environment. We are proud to have been awarded an institutional Athena SWAN silver award which underpins our pledge to improve equality for women.
We support a flexible approach to work, as well as additional benefits that will make your life easier, such as a corporate health care scheme and generous holiday allowance. We will support your long-term future too, with access to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), subsidised health and fitness facilities and a range of discounts.
