Job Summary

The Data Manager is required to work within the specialist information environments used by the University Estates Office (Revit, BIM360, CDE and CAFM) under the supervision of the Head of BIM and Digital Assets Manager. This role is key to supporting the progressive attitude of the department, and development of the BIM and Information management areas.

The BIM and Digital Assets team are responsible for the delivery and management of a number of functions. The team manages the Estates Departments'
  • BIM - Building Information Modelling processes and models, both through Capital Delivery and maintenance of the models;
  • Document and Information Management process for delivery on Capital projects;
  • Innovation Management, with particular focus on systems and increasing the efficiency of the Estates department and related university functions and;
  • Space Management, for space data management and space utilisation across the university.


The posholder will use in-depth knowledge of the systems and information management processes. Manage the update of information contained with the models via project teams or personally. Report on data completeness and ensure the progression and completion of document sets throughout projects. The post holder will work across all aspects of estates to assist/deliver information management.

Main Duties

Data Management
  • Lead on the development of Information Management Validation processes.
  • Support successful collaboration on the Common Data Environment (CDE) and support successful processing of information through workflows.
  • Analysing, interpreting and presenting large quantities of data and converting data into a presentable format for a variety of audiences to inform decision making and Information Validation
  • Support the implementation of the UoB BIM Requirements and Information Management Requirements and suggest updates as required during the course of projects, providing updates where required.
  • Provide and support the provision of information and related system training across estates and the wider supply chain.
  • Using technical expertise of the area, manage and audit BIM models for LOD and LOI at each of RIBA design stages as required at each information exchange through to operation.
  • Facilitate the management of estates data sets such as Space and Property
  • Facilitate the successful delivery of project O&M's into the CDE and manage the process of information validation within the timescales.
  • Ensuring that data systems are fit for purpose and are used effectively to optimise functionality and efficient reporting.

Person Specification

Essential Qualities:
  • Experience of implementing validation processes and a strong focus on ensuring information compliance.
  • Have built environment degree or equivalent qualification or experience in BIM and Information Management.
  • Either possess or be working towards a professional qualification in building built environment.
  • The ability to use BIM and computer aided design systems
  • The ability to work as part of a team, and to contribute fully to the Estates Office team.
  • Ability to form strong working relationships within the Estates Office, the University and with other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to persuade, influence and negotiate with staff at all levels of seniority.
  • Possession of good IT skills, to include practical knowledge of internet based tools, spreadsheets and databases.
  • The ability to prioritise and work without supervision, under pressure.
  • Drive and determination backed by the personal resources and resilience necessary to deliver agreed goals.


Highly Desirable Qualities:
  • A professional certification in BIM
  • Knowledge and Experience of CAFM and Estates Management systems
  • Proven ability to motivate a project team
  • Background in construction and building operation ideally M&E
  • The ability to communicate through the use of drawings, models and dashboards
  • Experience of BIM processes.
