Full time starting salary is normally in the range £27,511 to £30,046. With potential progression once in post to £33,797 a year
Grade 6
Full-time over 33 weeks (term-time + 3 weeks), 74%FTE
Fixed term contract for up to 1 year
Closing Date: 21st April 2021
Interviews will take place week commencing 19th May 2021
Summary of Role
'To contribute to elements of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students within Spanish studies in the Department of Modern Languages. Teaching in the first instance will mainly be within our Institution-wide Languages for All provision but the successful candidate may also be required to teach on the BA in Modern Languages programme'
Job Purpose
Teaching courses predominantly in Spanish language within a clear and established teaching programme set by the academic responsible for the course, who supervises and manages the role-holder. The academic supervisor, not the role-holder, is responsible for designing the course content, mode of delivery, and assessment criteria and arrangements.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and present as follows:
Presentation: to prepare a 10-minute (max.) presentation in Spanish for a post GCSE/ LfA Level 3 group (CEFR A2 in certain skills) at the half way point of the academic year. Please take into account that classes are open to Birmingham University students and members of the public and the length is of 110 minutes.
Please bring a copy of the lesson plan on paper to share with the panel.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver teaching activities within a class, tutorial or other group context in support of teaching for which others have primary responsibility.
- Supervise class activities within a framework designed by others.
- Contribute to the design of modules with other colleagues, overseen by the academic with ultimate responsibility for the modules.
- Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and handouts in accordance with the established objectives of the teaching programme.
- Assist students as required offering advice to help them with learning problems.
- Provide support to staff engaged in teaching.
- Assist with the marking of coursework, applying assessment criteria, as directed. (If the marking is summative, including assessed work contributing to the final award - as a mark or a credit - such as unseen examinations, essays, dissertations or presentations, then the role-holder's marking is subject to validation by the academic supervisor.)
- Update own subject knowledge, and to develop own teaching expertise.
- Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of teaching.
Person Specification
- Degree or equivalent relevant to teaching area.
- Experience of teaching through the medium of the target language.
- Ability to teach Spanish language at the appropriate level
- The ability to teach modules on Spanish society and culture would be desirable
- Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively.
- Ability to access and organise resources successfully.
